Something I do when I need to relax is make this thin rope from my yucca plant that came with the house.
One leaf can make yards and yards of thin strong rope, I like to vary the thickness of the rope, it is such an odd thing, as rope is typically even.

Hello! here I am working on printing the relief that was left from the Rooms to Let house project the final product turned out great! I will post pics once the show opens. They feel like a dark more historic version of the actual walls. The black ink seem to make the fictive environment seem more real. Ah, the power of print!!

Here are some images of my work in progress at the Rooms To Let Art Space. My process involves chiseling out an imagined room-scape in two layers. The space has a few indicators at to who previously occupied it, predominantly there were several Hanna Montana stickers. I decided to trace the room as if it was occupied not so long ago, while in a second layer illuminate an older occupant. In this process I am considering the future of the house that will be gutted, and rehabbed with new walls. The gutting of traces of former occupants became interesting to me and an attention to address this loss as well as renewal.

In a furry of preparation for installation on 49 martin Ave House today. The red "threads are almost finished, tomorrow I will begin installation on the actual houses, linking them together with this gigantic thread. and my new wood-burning tool cuts like a charm.

Undine Brod!!

Here are some images of Undine Brod, soon I will have a studio visit with her so check back for that!
In her artist statement Undine says of her practice, "I am intrigued with the imposition of rules and breaking those rules and/or boundaries. I attempt to raise questions about and create conflicts in the regular order of life and the rational mind. My overall motivation for working comes from my desire to explore, experiment with, and study these themes."
Working in both 2/3 D Undine's work spans installation, drawing, photography, taxidermy and ready-made utilizing unconventional yet everyday object and materials such as fingernail polish, fur, tape, lamps to name a few. Brod executes her work in a manner akin to a a private eye searching and revealing it's anonymous perhaps a little bizarre fictive history.

Here is the 5th floor studio of my Stefanie Busch, whom I got to know while I was in Germany in 2008, and then while she was in Columbus in last year. It was great to get back to Dresden for my exhibition, and the best part was seeing my good friend Stefanie!
Stefanie used photography and silkscreens to create her imagery, during here stay in Columbus she focused on the foreclosed and abandoned neighborhoods of Columbus, Cleveland and Detroit.

I had the opportunity to visit a few weeks ago and was totally blown away by the work, and left with a great painting!!

Tucked below a gorgeous old brick house is the studio of Amandda Tiery Graham. I got to pay her a visit one night before it got so cool out. The studio is a bustle with color combinations, metallics and shininess. Filling her space are small alters, paint blobbed pallets, funny pictures and a few spider friends. She was just finishing up a commission and beginning some new experiments. It was great to see lots of her work at her Ohio Art League solo show and look forward to see what will emerge from the studio next!

Here is the studio of a good friend Michael Ferris, his work is jaw dropping, as it is completely make of pieced wood. these sculptures made from wood that is both applied and carved, are held in place by pigmented grout. Mike's wall of baggies, are all the shapes and verities of wood utilized in the making of this work.

He uses all recycled and found wood, a few years back I visited him in New York and he was excited to point out how much wood you get from busting up a pallet. Mike paints and draws with equal intensity.

What do you enjoy most about working here? Walking into a nest that I've built. I have greater focus in my own space. Because it is private, I don't have to keep a path clear and I can sing and dance to any kind of music with the volume up. I love the height of the ceiling, the skylights in the day and the second floor viewing area. Plus I have a “drawing room” or clean space.
What would you improve if you could? More space for more trees and storage for finished work.

"The design of my studio is based upon a love of wood. It is designed for someone who appreciates craftsmanship and the warmth of wood. The roof is sloped and made from standing seam metal. The dormer lets light into the open spaces inside. The exterior walls as well as the two front timbers are made of cedar. The artist will enter on the concrete stairs between the two timbers. " This was the accompanying text. I want to be that artist!

These drawings, as well as all entries related to this project, are being published in a book!
